There is a body weight scale in almost every home with some being used more often than others.
When looking to buy a new body scale, some factors to take into account are:
- Pick one which has a large read-out which is easy to read in all lighting conditions
- Must have a stable base, one that doesnt move around when you stand on it
- The top surface should not be slippery and should be "non-skid" even when there is a little water on it
- The scale should be accurate to within a pound or so
- It should record the same weight no matter where you stand on it
- Be easy to store away
- No need to be manually turned on and off. The newer models have mechanism which turns the unit on when you touch or stand on the top.
- Work without needing to be plugged into a wall electric socket and if battery powered the batteries should last for a long time
While not really critical in a body weight scale the unit should also be easy to clean and be a pleasant looking device.
A very basic body weight scale will provide your weight in either metric or imperial weights.
The more advanced models provide functions such as body fat, body water, BMI (body mass index), muscle mass, bone mineral mass and multiple memories to store data for different people over time.
There are even some which will estimate the fitness level of the user.
So when selecting a device take sometime to think about what it is you might like to measure apart from weight.
